Obituary

Online Obituaries Entering this world on May 14,1994 in Stoughton, Massachusetts, Jonathan Descartes was the third-born child and second son of Jean Magloire Descartes and Suzette (Decamp) Descartes. Growing up, Jonathan, affectionately called Jonton by his siblings and loved ones, was a cute, smart, chubby boy, rarely found without a smile on his face. Though the smile remained throughout his early years to adulthood, his family and friends soon found themselves having to look up to a tall (64) slender, young man. He was a good student who enjoyed school, graduating from Brockton High School in 2012 and then attending Massasoit Community College. Knowing that he wanted to pursue a career in Information Technology, he decided to apply for admission and was accepted to YearUp Boston, a program that prepares young adults for professional careers and higher education. Jonathan was also a hard-worker, often balancing two jobs at once. He was a staff member at the Showcase Cinemas, and also worked at the Judge Rotenburg Center. Wanting to build on his experience in working with troubled youth, he decided to leave the movie theatre to work at the May Institute, another youth based program that focused on those with disabilities and autism. He knew that these jobs could and would be difficult, yet he found helping others to be rewarding and he felt supported by his co-workers. If someone was in need, and he was around, Jonathan would be there to help. He was known for cracking jokes, was witty, jovial and compassionate to everyone who knew him. His favorite pastimes were riding motorcycles, playing video games and collecting sneakers. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jonathan Descartes passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in Lowell, Massachusetts, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident, at the young age of 21. In addition to his parents, Jonathan is survived by his siblings, Jessica (32), Joseph Obed (27) and Janice Claire (18). He is also survived by his grandmother, Clermelie Babine Decamp, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. He was an amazing young man who will be sorely missed but whose charismatic nature, positive energy and signature grin will always remain in the hearts of those he touched while here. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held in the First Brockton Haitian Church, 940 Main Street Brockton on Monday, May 2nd at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00PM - 8:00PM.
