Joseph M. Gay, 79, of Brockton, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Brockton Health Center. He was the husband of the late Adelise S. Gay.
Joseph Montal Gay was the 5th of 10 children and the last born of 3 male children. He was born to his proud parents, Girosna Gay and Canelise C. Gay on October 10, 1941 in Chardonette, Jeremie, Haiti. He was seen as the true hope of hisfamily. He was pushed to advance with his education, and to proceed into a better life. He left his hometown in 1966 to enter the main city of Haiti (Port-au-Prince) in hopes of providing better opportunities and brighter future for his family.
When he arrived in Port-Au-Prince, Tal found his path to serve his country. He enrolled into the Haiti Military Corp in 1967, where he served for twenty years. He was one of Duvalier's chauffeurs who accompanied him to the Airport 1986 as he was leaving the country. In his own word he said that he was one of the very few who did not participate in the contraband during that trip to the Airport. That is true integrity, to do the right thing when no one is watching. A true soldier carries the character trait such as loyalty, duty, respect, selflessness, honor, integrity, and personal courage.
Post military life, he worked as a taxi driver as he tried diligently to care for his tribe. Tal avoided and declined all offers to participate in dirty post military after life activities. He always reminded us that by declining these offers he also accepted to live a simple and quiet live, and he did indeed. He truly lived by the advised of Paul to the people of 1 Thessalonians 4:11 "live a quiet life, and mind your own business, and work with your own hands". Ecc 4:6 Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.
With the help of his sisters Flavie and Julie Gay, he came to the US with two of his sons Sonthonax and Joseph on October 11, 1998 as a permanent resident. Yet, another
challenge, in a new country, new language, Tal being a hardworking man, had work multiple side jobs (paper delivery man, factories, McDonald's) to stay afloat. He displayed the ideal work ethic as a father. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 " ..if anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat."
Daddy accepted Christ here in America, became an active member of his church, and even held a deacon position for years. After tirelessly working for a couple of years, he went back to Haiti and married Adelise on April 18, 2001, with whom he lived in Haiti for more than 2 decades. Is it Coincidence that he is being buried exactly 2 months after his wife was laid to rest at this very same spot?
Joseph Montal Gay is survived by his 8 children Floor Gay, Sonthonax Gay, Fabienne Gay, Marie Nelta Gay, Joseph K Dumas, Jordany Gay, Josue Gay, Jean Herrard Gay, Jeff Gay. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren (Linda Gacette, Oliver Gacette, Mike Thevenin, Fabrice Thevenin, Flavie S Gay, Betheline K Gay, Talitha I Gay, Karl S Gay, Christopher Gay, Samuel Johnathan Gay, Kayledah, Daphine T Gay, Samuel Jordany Gay, Kerwynn-Adams Dumas, by whom he will be missed very much.
Tal's legacy of humility, patience, and integrity will forever be missed. He was a kind husband, a beloved brother, courageous father, grandfather, great uncle, and a loyal friend
for others.
