Joseph John Gilmetti

Joseph John Gilmetti was born in Brockton, MA on February 11, 1933, the son of John and Mary Gilmetti. His siblings were Mary, John, Theresa, and Barbara.

Joseph attended St. Patrick School, Brockton, for grades 1 through 8 where he was taught by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

In 1946 he entered Brockton High School and graduated in 1950.

During his years at BHS, Joseph was an excellent student. Joseph loved school and maintained high grades.

Joseph was invited to be the manager of the BHS football team during his high school years. In 1948, the team was undefeated and they were invited to compete in the Orange Bowl in Jacksonville, FLA. Their opponent was Miami Edson High School. Miami Edson proved to be no match for BHS and were easily defeated by the team from Brockton. Joseph was so proud of having been a member of the BHS team! Above all else, Joseph was an excellent student at BHS.

One of Joseph's favorite hobbies was building model airplanes. He organized a model airplane club with his neighborhood friends. The club's headquarters were located in the barn of his family home!

In 1951, Joseph enrolled in the U.S.Airforce. His initial training was at Lackland Airbase, San Antonio TX.

From 1952 - 1955 Joseph was stationed in Korea where he served until 1955. Joseph's main position was that of a cartographer.

Joseph was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

In 1956 Joseph enrolled in Stonehill College in North Easton, MA. Again, Joseph excelled in his studies. He graduated in 1960 from Stonehill with a Bachelor's degree in philosophy, Cum Laude!

Later on Joseph was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Brockton where he was a very faithful mail carrier for 20 years!

Above all, Joseph loved his Catholic faith! He was a very proud and devoted communicant of Saint Colman - Christ the King parish in Brockton. He ministered as altar server for numerous funerals, lector, Eucharistic Minister, and as a member of the financial team.

Joseph was very devoted to reading and praying the scriptures, praying the rosary, attending daily Mass, and reading the lives of the saints. His favorite saint was Edith Stein.

In 2022, Joseph became a resident at St. Joseph Manor, Brockton, where he remained until 2026. He was well loved by the staff and residents of the Manor. He deeply appreciated the Love, Care, and Kindness afforded him by all the staff and residents.

Joseph passed away at St. Joseph Manor on August 12, 2026.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Gilmetti, his sister Mary Forsberg, and his brother John Gilmetti.

Joseph is survived by his sister Theresa Millikan of Bridgewater, his sister Barbara Gilmetti SCN of Wellesley, MA, his nephews Bert Forsberg of Boston, MA, and Paul Forsberg of Norfolk, MA.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 31st at St. Joseph's Manor, 215 Thatcher Street, Brockton, MA. The wake service will be at 9AM followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 10AM.

The burial service will be held at 12:45 on TUESDAY, September 1, 2026 at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
