Joseph J. "Joey" Morana
Joseph J. Joey Morana, 68, of Whitman, a longtime resident of Brockton and well-known local singer, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston.
Joe was best known as one of the lead singers for the local Doo-Wop group The Cavaliers, which he was a part of since the early 60s. He was a graduate of Brockton High School and a long time employee at the VA Hospital in Brockton as both a union representative and a manager, but his greatest love was music.
His musical career included opening performances for the Drifters, Iron Butterfly and James Montgomery, culminating as it started with longtime friends in The Cavaliers, Richard Shanks, Danny Sweeting, Walter Holland, Peter Akeke and Bernie Hassan. Together since 1960 Doo-Wop worked numerous venues on the South Shore and Boston area. Other groups whom he performed with included Poor Souls, Persian Slave Market, Roundhouse and the Mudslide R&B band. His unique sounding voice will be remembered and missed by all of those who heard him perform.
He is survived by his wife Dianne L. (Hayward) Morana; daughter, Kendra Morana; sons, Joseph J. Morana, Jr., and Christopher Morana; step daughter, Carrie Barreira; step son, David Barreira and his wife Angela; grandsons, Aiden, RJ and Alec, granddaughters, Ava, Autumn, Victoria and Tayleigh.

Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St.,(Rt.123) Brockton on Friday, September 12th from 4:00-7:30PM followed by a prayer service at 7:30PM. Interment with Military Honors will be on Monday, September 15th in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 10:30AM.
