Joseph Norek
Joseph S. Norek, of Brockton, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Kindred Hospital in Stoughton. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Whiting) Norek, who passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009.
Born March 28, 1910 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Frank Norek and Anna (Komorski) Norek. Mr. Norek served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Norek came to Brockton in 1945 and was a Manager of Kresge Restaurant in Brockton for many years. He also worked at the Goddard Hospital in Stoughton for 12 years. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Brockton. He loved music, the Boston Red Sox, and especially his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Laurene Wardyga of Brockton; his grandson, Brian Wardyga and his wife Laurie-Lee of Natick; his sister, Helen Meyers of PA; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Norek, Henry Norek, and Edward Norek.
Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Saturday at 8:00AM thence to St. Patrick Church, 335 Main St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9:00AM by the Rev. Jose Abalon. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Friday 4:00-7:00PM.
Dorothy Norek
Dorothy (Whiting) Norek, 98, of Brockton, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Joseph S. Norek, who passed away on Monday, January 26, 2009.
Born July 26, 1910 in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Leon Whiting and Edith (Ridgeway) Whiting. Raised in Brockton, she attended Brockton Schools.
Dorothy met Joseph when she worked as a waitress at Kresge's Restaurant in Brockton. They were married in 1947. She also worked at King's Department Store in Brockton as a Clerk.
Joseph and Dorothy were devoted to each other and enjoyed cooking meals for family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurene Wardyga of Brockton; her grandson, Brian Wardyga and his wife Laurie-Lee of Natick; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Lester Whiting, Arlene Holmes, and Mae Bagdon.
