, 85, of Bridgewater, died Friday, October 3, 2008 at his home after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Lillian B. (Copeland) Webby.
Born June 21, 1923 in Brockton, he was the son of the late John Webby and Nora (Malik) Webby. Raised in Brockton he was a graduate of Brockton High School. He then served in the United States Army during WWII.
Joseph was one of the proprietors of Webby's Market on the West Side of Brockton. He worked there for many years with his family. He enjoyed gardening and farming and was a member of the Abington VFW. Joseph was a parishioner of St. Colman / Christ the King Church in Brockton, Our Lady of the Lake Church in Halifax, and St. Ann Church in West Bridgewater.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Webby of Bridgewater; his children, Joseph J. Webby and his wife Marybeth of Kingston, Damian Webby and his wife Charlene of Chatham, Stephen Webby and his wife Jennifer of Kingston, Ann Kagei and her husband Sab of Japan and Chatham, Susan Fleischmann of Chatham, Alice Dennehy and her husband Jay of East Bridgewater, Helen Daly and her husband William of Halifax, Nora Zoino and her husband Paul of Harwich, Margaret Richardson and her husband Paul of N.H., Marie Jackson and her husband Paul of Kingston, and Linda Brown and her husband Fritz of Londonderry N.H.; his stepchildren, Diane Coelho of Plymouth, Ernest Chaves and his wife Ruth of Vermont, Nancy Maloney and her husband Robert of Halifax, Joseph Chaves of Dorchester, Alfred Chaves of Medford, Estelle Chaves and David Shipman of Rochester; his brothers and sisters, Louis Webby and his wife Mary of Brockton, Thomas Webby and his wife Pat of Carver, Lillian Garnet of Harwich, Theresa Gogat and her husband Jerry of Chatham, and Mary Brown and her husband Hayes of Maryland. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Joseph was also the husband of the late Hilda I. (Salvador) Webby and the brother of the late George, John, Ernest, and Edward Webby.
Funeral Information
A Funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul on Monday at 11:00AM in St. Ann Church, 103 North Main St., West Bridgewater. Private Interment will follow in VA National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours omitted.
