Obituary

Julie John Ciociola, Jr., 79, of Brockton, MA, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center, with his wife of nearly 52 years, Diana E. (Pesanelli) Ciociola, faithfully by his side. Born on August 24, 1941 in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late Julie J. Ciociola, Sr., from New Castle, DE and Esther (Hogan) Ciociola, from Mays Landing, NJ. Known as "Butch" or "Jules" to family and friends growing up, he graduated from Wilmington High School in 1959. His sister Julia got him his first job as a courier for Real Estate company T.B. O'Toole while still in high school and from there it was on to a position in banking at Wilmington Trust. He worked for DuPont while doing a 4 year stint in the Delaware National Guard and all throughout, his green '67 Cougar was his pride and joy. He moved to Massachusetts in 1969 after marrying Diana. As a "numbers" guy who had a knack for working with computers, he joined Honeywell Information Systems first as a Systems Representative, moving to Consulting Technical Advisor in Field Technical Services, and later to Senior Systems Representative. Following his career of 22 years, he transitioned to being a mainstay in the offices for Brockton Furnace and Duct in Avon, MA, where his computer expertise made him integral to every department. He worked there from 1991 to the present day, and they are quick to acknowledge that "no one could ever fill his shoes." Julie was an accomplished "napper" who loved animals. In his waking hours, he was always sure to provide plenty of seed to the birds that visited his back yard. He was also very fond of the many feline companions the family owned over the years. As an avid reader, he was a fan of bookstores and libraries and enjoyed mysteries and thrillers most of all. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his three grandchildren—they kept him young and silly. He absolutely adored them and they adored their "Papa" and "Grampa" in return. Relatives and friends knew him as "a gentleman" and as a steady, reliable presence with an even temperament and tone. His dry wit was his strongest trait and something that he definitely passed on to his three children. It was his trademark and it will be missed by all who knew him. Every summer, he enjoyed vacationing with his family by the seashore in Ogunquit, Maine where his days were spent at the beach playing with his grandchildren, taking walks downtown, or along the Marginal Way, grabbing coffee and treats in the hotel lobby for himself and his "Dee," and of course, getting ice cream as much as possible. Family visits there won't be the same without him. In addition to his wife Diana, he is survived by his children Keith T. Ciociola and his wife Gwendolyn Ruiz of Sandy Hook, CT, Gregory J. Ciociola and his partner Lisa Brown of Denver, CO, and Julie R. (Ciociola) Almonte and her husband Donald of North Attleboro, MA; beloved grandchildren William Almonte, Henry Almonte, and Eleanor Ciociola; siblings Cecelia Farnan, Julia Rice, Walter Ciociola, and the late Francis Ciociola, in-laws, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name by check to the Brockton Public Library Special Account, Attn:Sandra Reed at 304 Main St. Brockton, MA 02301, or to the Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue, P. O. Box 2261, Plainville, MA 02762. A private mass was held in his honor at Our Lady of Lourdes church, which he attended faithfully every Sunday prior to March 2020. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date. Highlights: Full-length:
