Kathleen Ann Bunar of Bridgewater passed peacefully at home with family after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer
Kate was born in Brockton to the late Alma Moquin Doherty and John Doherty. She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Straffin of Maine.
Kate operated a children's daycare until the age of 42. She then embarked on a life-defining journey of education. Working weekends to support her children, she attended nursing school full time. She obtained her associate's degree in nursing from Massasoit College in 1984. Within 5 years of becoming an RN, she received her BS in Nursing from Umass Boston. Her education culminated at age 52 when she earned a Masters of Science in Health Care Management from Lesley College.
She was employed as a gastroenterology specialty nurse at the Brockton VA hospital from 1984-1992 and at Boston Medical Center from 1992-2002. She was elected President of the New England Gastroenterology Nurses Assoc.. in 1995.
She finished her nursing career in the Stoughton School System in 2006.
From 2008 to her passing, Kate was the summer proprietor of a bustling bait and tackle shop in Duxbury, MA.
An avid traveler, She visited many European countries and sailed on nearly every ocean. She especially loved exploring the countryside of her ancestral Ireland.
She enjoyed a second home in Florida and cherished her winter tribe. She maintained many lifelong friendships and remained forever close to her Abington High '58 classmates.
Her fiercest love and loyalty were given to her family.
She is survived by a brother John Doherty of Carver, Brother in Law Norman Straffin of Maine, Daughter Vicki Reimann and Her Husband Mitchell Reimann of Illinois, Daughter Deborah Bunar and son in law Michael Elias of Brockton, Son John Bunar of Bridgewater
She will be missed by her Grandchildren Bliss Reimann, Brittany Reimann, Blayre Reimann, Michael Bunar and Jason Bunar. Great Grandchildren Emma and Tanner Reimann
Following cremation a memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, March 29th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 So. Main Street.(Rt.28) West Bridgewater. A memorial service will follow at 7:00PM.
