Kenneth B. Meier
Kenneth Burgess Meier passed away on January 24, 2009 in the arms of his devoted wife.
He was born in Wareham, MA on August 15, 1927 to William Meier and Gertrude (Russell) Meier. He was the treasured husband of Antonietta (Minerva) Meier for 36 years.
Kenny grew up in Wareham and Middleboro and attended schools there. He was a diligent worker with an admirable work ethic whether it was with the Beaton Cranberry Co. in his younger years, driving a truck for Cape Cod Overland Express in his later years or as a warehouse manager for Appliance Distribution Center in Avon.
He had camaraderie with his bosses and co-workers who enjoyed his wit and humor. His opinions were often sought after. He was a respected worker and friend.
In 1946 he joined the Navy and served on the carrier, The USS Tarawa as a fire man visiting Cuba. In 1947 he worked in Florida building houses. During the Korean War he was drafted and spent 12 months in Germany. He liked to reminisce about his experiences while stationed there.
Kenny loved the outdoors, hunting, gardening and tending to his yard. You know you'd have a different perspective about life after spending time with him enjoying a beer and probably a good cigar. On many levels he was a well rounded man.
Kenny was an active member of ITAM Post 62 in the capacity of Senior vice Commander. He was also a member of Teamster's Local 653. He was a communicant of St. John's Church in East Bridgewater.
While illness did change the quality of his life, he endured it the way he lived his life with strength and determination never giving up or giving in to self pity.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Antonietta Meier; his sister, Priscilla Pierce of Wareham; his two brothers, Ronald Meier of Wareham and Reginald Meier of Pocasset. He was also the brother of the late William Meier. This kind, caring man was loved deeply by his wife. He will be missed. Kenny was truly blessed by God who provided him with the courage he needed.
May it comfort us to know that the one we loved is home with Jesus resting in his arms in everlasting peace.
