, 100 years old, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Pasquale Stella and Marianna (Galbo) Stella. He began working full-time at the age of 13 in Orient Heights, Boston, and his work ethic continued into his early nineties. While working at George E. Keith Shoe Factory in Brockton, he met and married Rose Tomaselli, whom he has been married to for 70 years. After moving from Weymouth, where they raised their family, they have been living in Brockton for 33 years, most recently at Emmanuel House.
Larry was a lifelong carpenter, worked at the Fore River Shipyard during World War II, and then for the Town of Weymouth in the Maintenance Department of the School System until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of the Sons of Italy and a violinist with the Massasoit Senior Orchestra for many years. In addition to his love of family, classical music, and building or repairing anything for anyone, he was an avid gardener. He and his wife were also communicants of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton.
He was the father of Mary Ann Stella Killilea and her husband, Alfred Killilea of Kingston, Rhode Island and Lorraine Stella Luizzi and her husband, Anthony Luizzi of Brockton; grandfather of Joseph Killilea, Michael Luizzi, Maria Luizzi Sullivan, Anne Luizzi Heffernan, and the late Marianna Killilea; great-grandfather of Jack and Briggs Killilea and Thomas Sullivan; brother of David and John Stella; He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Josephine Nereo, Mary Moriarty, Philip, William, and Paul Stella.

Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Friday, May 2nd at 8:00AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 433 West St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9:00AM. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Thursday 5:00-8:00PM.
