Obituary

Leonard A. D’Amico, Retired Boston Firefighter, age 85, of Brockton died October 4, 2013 at the Braemoor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was the loving husband of Carol A. (McElroy) D’Amico. Born in Boston, he was raised and educated in Roxbury, son of the late Peter D. and Mary (Miller) D’Amico. During WW II he served in the US Army.

Mr. D’Amico had been a Boston Firefighter for 37 years, assigned to Engine 12 in Roxbury and Engine 55 in West Roxbury, retiring in 1986. He loved being a firefighter and found his job to be rewarding, saving lives and rescuing babies from fires. He also loved to cook for his fellow firefighters at the station and was a member of the Boston Fire Department Scuba Team.

Leonard was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf at DW Field Golf Course, handball, racquetball, gardening and cooking. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy in Braintree.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Janet Heslen of Plymouth, stepchildren Cheryl Silver of Hampton, NH and Mark Russo of New Bedford; four grandchildren Brenden and John Heslen, Anthony Russo and Victoria Silver; brother in law Al Pizzi, nephew Doug Pizzi, several nieces and nephews and his best friend Jack Ryan of Millis. He was the brother of the late Frank and Peter D’Amico and Gloria Pizzi.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday 4-7pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10am.
