Obituary

Lewis A. Hammond “Papa”, age 86, of West Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died on June 27, 2024 at Faulkner Hospital. He was the loving husband for 49 years of the late Patricia J. (Green) Hammond. Born and raised in Easton, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth (Pittsley) Hammond and brother of Charles Hammond and the late Melvin and Allen Hammond. Lewis was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School and served in the Army during Vietnam.

For many years he was employed as a draftsman for GTE. Lewis was a social person who enjoyed chatting with everyone he met. He enjoyed being with his family, camping, working on cars, doing projects around the house, watching westerns, going for car rides to get coffee and ice cream, and spending as much time as he could outside doing crossword puzzles.

Lewis was the father of Linda Fogarty of West Bridgewater and Paula Hammond of Attleboro. He was the devoted and loving grandfather of Lee Almanzar and Amanda Hammond-Fogarty and special great grandfather of Jordan Moreira, Trey and Dominic Coulter and Mateo and Ariana Almanzar. He was also an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
