Louis Ghelfi, Sr.
, 92 of Raynham, formerly of Brockton and Florida died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Longmeadow Nursing Home, Taunton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Evelyn A. (Valente) Ghelfi.
Born August 12, 1917 in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Angelo and Mary (Resmini) Ghelfi. He began his career at Stiles and Hart Brick Company in East Bridgewater. From 1942 to 1945 he was a ship fitter at Bethlehem Steel Company in Quincy. Later he worked for Savini Sand and Gravel and A.A Will Sand and Gravel, retiring from A.A Will Sand and Gravel in 1979 for health reasons.
Mr. Ghelfi was a member of Laborers International Union of North America and the Massachusetts Laborers Union. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp.
He also had a career in the pizza business beginning in 1941 at the Brockton Caf. In 1956 Lou and his wife Evelyn opened Louie's Lunch in Whitman. Later he and his father-in-law owned the Pizza Cottage restaurant in Campello. Over the years, Louie shared his pizza recipe with many restaurants in the Brockton area.
He is survived by his children, Lorraine Sergio and her husband Sam of Bridgewater, Evelyn Ferioli and her husband Francis of Kingston and Louis Ghelfi, Jr. and his wife Ruth of Middleboro; his 14 grandchildren; his 25 great-grandchildren; his 4 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Primo, Anthony, Charles, Mario, Albert "Mickey", Joseph and Dircia Ghelfi.

Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater on Monday Sept. 28th at 9:00am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Ann's Catholic Church, 660 North Main St., Raynham at 10:00am.
Burial will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, September 27th from 2:00pm-5:00pm.
