Obituary

Louise (Sanderhoff) Duhamel, 90, of West Bridgewater, MA passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the devoted wife of the late Arthur Joseph Duhamel for over 44 years of marriage. Born on January 4, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late George Sanderhoff and Hortense (DuBois) Sanderhoff. She graduated from Punta Gorda High School in Florida, received a license in cosmetology, and attended Massasoit Community College for the study of literature and writing. Louise was a dear and gentle person with a Godly spirit. She was caring, beautiful inside and out, young at heart, vivacious, intelligent and elegant. She lived a full and joyful life with a heart that overflowed with love. Following marriage in 1953, she and Arthur moved to Massachusetts with a young daughter in order to be with family and begin a new life. Inspired by her Danish father, in her mid-20s, Louise opened a hardware store in Brockton. Ahead of her time, she also started a dry-cleaning pick-up and delivery service that's similar to today's Zoots. Capitalizing on her hairstylist expertise, Louise went on to start a beauty salon at Howard School for Girls in W. Bridgewater. A woman of many talents, she inspired her husband to start a refrigeration business where she managed the accounting and helped make business decisions. She also worked in accounting management at Cancer Screening Laboratory for many years. Always busy and involved, Louise loved volunteering, where she served at Good Samaritan Medical Center for 25 years. Gifted with many creative talents, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, arts and crafts, reading, visiting with family, walking the beach when at her home in Florida, gardening, working out at the YMCA and traveling the world with family and friends. The glue of her family keeping everyone together, she also enjoyed keeping traditions, especially around the holidays, with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her faith and love were the foundations of her life, and she was a devoted member of Christ Congregational Church. Her favorite passage from the Bible was Romans 8:28 "All things come together for the good of God". She studied the entire Bible, loved children, taught Sunday School for years, and ran a Cub Scouts den and Brownies of which her children were members. Eager to help and an inspiration for her entire family and those lucky enough to know her, Louise became head Deacon, served communion, sang in the Church choir, rang Church handbells which she shared in fellowship with many friends, and she also made many friends with whom she shared adventures abroad, and regularly organized large Church fairs and events. Lovingly devoted to her family, Louise is survived by her children Karen Duhamel of Norton MA, Sandra Duhamel of Taunton MA, and David Duhamel of W. Bridgewater MA; her grandchildren Nicole Tarantino, her husband Thomas and their children Thomas and Isabella of Plymouth MA, and Marc Perrault, his wife Amanda and their daughter Madison of Hingham MA. A funeral service will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 S. Main St., (Rt.28) West Bridgewater on Thursday, November 4th at 11AM followed by interment in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, November 3rd from 4:00-7:00 PM. Donations may be made to one of Louise's favorite charities the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
