Highlights:
On Wednesday, May 5, 2021, Brockton Police Lieutenant Kenneth Le Grice, of West Bridgewater passed away at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with cancer - one that he fought fiercely until the very end. Ken was one of the longest standing members of the Brockton Police Department where he served for 34 years, spending the majority of his time in the Detective Division, rising to the position of Chief of Detectives. Ken was an active member of the Special Reaction Team and worked in several other roles. In 2016 he earned the honor of winningest softball coach in Stonehill College history where he coached for 17 seasons, 12 seasons as the head coach.
In the simplest of words, Ken Le Grice was one of the good guys. But what does it actually look like to be one of the good guys?
It looks like a husband who would brag to anyone who would listen about how lucky he was to be married to such an amazing woman. It looks like a father who would beam with pride sharing his childrens' accomplishments and would triple book himself so he could make as many games as possible. It looks like the grandfather who would wear Disney princess wigs just to make his grandchildren smile. It looks like the friend who always paid for the first round and made sure to call you on every birthday and holiday. It looks like the lieutenant who gave 100% to anyone in need - from the mayor to the average citizen. It looks like the coach who believed in you more than you believed in yourself - who would make you run sprints, then wrap you in a hug.
For Ken Le Grice, being one of the good guys looks like a man who spent every single day of his life finding ways to help and serve countless others. He was the phone call you could make at any hour of the day or night. He was the advice that always, always led you toward the right decision. He was the laugh that could fill a room, the reassurance to follow your heart, the confidence to reach outside of your comfort zone, the open door that would always let you in and encourage you to stay, and the safety net to catch you when you fell.
Stubborn to a fault and loyal to a tee, Ken spent five years battling this disease without skipping a beat - showing the power of optimism and mental toughness. His legacy is one that will continue for generations to come - especially because of the family that he so deeply loved and fiercely protected. Ken held space for so many others who will now hold space for his memory. It's easy to say that he will be remembered as one of the good guys because every move he made demonstrated that. But Ken was more than good. He was great. He was superman. He was a hero. And now - now he is a legend.
Ken is survived by his wife Angela, his children Shannon and her boyfriend Jim Godsil, Katie and her husband Brian, Ken Jr. and his girlfriend Tiana Cabana, James and Benjamin, his grandchildren Liam, Cora, McKenna, Willow and Luke, his siblings, Debbie Combest, Douglas Le Grice, Robert Le Grice, George Le Grice and Doreen O'Donnell, many nieces and nephews, his BPD brothers and sisters, and his hundreds of softball daughters. Ken was predeceased by his father, George K. Le Grice, his mother, Marie Le Grice and brother Dennis Le Grice.
