Online Obituaries Lucile (Smart) Johnson was born on January 24, 1924 in Clyo, Georgia to the late Samuel and Anna Smart. On September 16, 2016 at the age of 92, Lucile turned in her cross and received her crown. Lucile received her education in the Effingham County, Georgia school systems. In 1939 she married George Franklin Pelote who preceded her in death in 1955. In 1957 she married Freddie Johnson (also deceased). Of these unions. Nine (9) children were born. In her lifetime, Mother Johnson has held many positions. None was as precious to her as Mother to her nine children and Nana to her grands. Luciles love for God was unquestionable, evident, and never failing. She committed herself to serve to God at an early age in Taylors Chapel AME Church in Clyo, Georgia. When she moved to Boston in 1970 she continued her service to God in Grant AME Church under Pastor William Lamont Cody. She was consecrated as a deaconess, sang in the choir and was always available as an advisor and prayer warrior. Mother Johnson is survived by her brother, Thomas J. Smart(Annie Lou) of Clyo, Georgia, seven(7) children: Charles Pelote (Mildred), Mae Ola Pelote, Zimbery Pelote (Evelina), Willie L. Pelote (Susan), Sarah Lawton, Benjamin Pelote, and Alfred L. Johnson (Tina), 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grand children and countless nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her son Matthew Pelote and her daughter Patricia Pelote. Funeral Information A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 26th at 10:00AM in the Grant African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1906 Washington St., Boston, MA. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston. Calling hours will be prior to the service in the church from 9:00 to 10:00AM.
