Lynne F (Nickerson) Hopper (77) of West Bridgewater, a teacher for many years in Hanson and West Bridgewater, died on July 10, 2024, at South Shore Hospital after a brief unexpected illness.
Born in Hyannis, MA, she was the daughter of (the late) Edmund and Janice (Lapham) Nickerson of Florida and Cape Cod. She lived in Chatham MA for 15 years before moving to Marston Mills where she graduated from Barnstable High School in 1964. She attended Cape Cod Community College before transferring Bridgewater State College, graduating magna cum laude with an AB degree in English and Secondary Education in 1970. At West Bridgewater Middle-Senior High School she was on the Faculty Senate and served as Advisor to the Key Club and ninth and tenth grade classes, retiring in 2000. She was an active member of the Cochesett United Methodist Church in West Bridgewater where she served on the board for many years. She also acted as contact person for the United Methodist Foundation of New England. Before that she was SPPC chair and Superintendent of Sunday School.
Lynne enjoyed reading, gardening, scrapbooking, sewing, traveling, going on Facebook, solving Wordle and other NY Times puzzles, watching football (especially her favorite quarterback Patrick Mahomes), vacationing at her beloved Hawks Nest Camp in Harwich, and spending time with her book club, exercise group at the COA, and her church friends. Most of all she loved hanging out with her family and her long-time friends.
She leaves behind her beloved husband George Hopper; her mother, Janice (Lapham) Nickerson of Marston Mills; two sons Mark and Doug Salvador of Bridgewater; a daughter, Tracy Thomas- Humphries (Dennis) of Greenwood, SC; two stepdaughters, Sherry Hopper of Taunton, and Julie Hopper of Foxboro; two sisters Lois Wilkerson of Marston Mills, and Lana Nickerson of Eaton, NH; eight grandchildren: Brittany, Nicholas, Jordan, Stanley, Mitchell, Olivia, Jacob and Lucas; two greatgrandchildren: Braedyn and Camden; two "bonus" grandchildren: Nathan and Courtney; and four "bonus" great-grands.
Visiting hours are on Wednesday, July 31, from 4pm – 6pm, with a memorial service from 6-6:30 at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 S Main St in West Bridgewater, followed by a "Celebration of Life" from 7-10 at the Bridgewater Vets Club, 85 Cottage St, Bridgewater.
