Devine of Brockton July 1, 2007 M. Irene Devine 92 years. Daughter of the late John J. and Alice M. Devine. Cousin of Robert Carmichael Sr., Robert Carmichael Jr., Paul Carmichael, Carol (Carmichael) Drake, Kathy (Carmichael) Surette, Denise (Quill) St. Pierre, Sheila (Quill) Gillen, Vincent and Bernadine Quill.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Friday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish at 9 am. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8 pm. Donations in Irene’s name may be made to St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish, 71 East Main St., Brockton, MA 02301.


Obituary

M. Irene Devine 92 years of Brockton died Sunday morning at BayPointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. She was born in Haverhill a daughter of the late of John J. and Alice M. Devine and had resided in the South Shore area for most of her life.
Miss Devine was a graduate of Abington High School Class of 1933 and Burdett Business College in Boston. She had been a secretary for 31 years at the law firm of Hale & Dorr in Boston. She had also worked in the business office at Edgars Department Store.
Miss Devine was a gifted story teller who captivated the imagination of her family members. She had a passion for absorbing cultural and social current events. She enjoyed studying history and was a worldwide traveler who enjoyed tracing her ancestry in the British Isles.
Miss Devine was an inspirational person who had a lasting affect on anyone she met. She loved reading and raising parakeets.
Miss Devine had been a longtime member of St. Edward Church.
She is survived by her cousins Robert Carmichael Sr., Robert Carmichael Jr., Paul Carmichael; Carol (Carmichael) Drake, Kathy (Carmichael) Surette, Denise (Quill) St. Pierre, Sheila (Quill) Gillen, Vincent and Bernadine Quill.
