Madelyn Prendergast of Lake Worth, Florida formerly of Brockton, MA died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on the evening of Monday April 13th. She was the daughter of John and Madelyn Bavis, both deceased. Predeceased by siblings Jack Bavis, Robert Bavis, Rosemary Sutherland and Donna Marie Golden.
She was raised in South Boston with eight other siblings, a large and loving family. She graduated from Nazareth High School then pursued a career in hair dressing, eventually owning her own salon. Later on in life seeking a change in career she became a certified nursing assistant, which was a career she truly loved.
Madelyn married Thomas Prendergast celebrating nearly 60 years together. They raised their family in Brockton, MA and many Sunday afternoons were enjoyed organizing and volunteering at learn to skate program at the Asiaf Rink. Madelyne also served as a CCD teacher at St Margaret’s Church.
Madelyn and Tom retired to Florida always welcomed and enjoyed taking friends, families, and grandchildren to the pools, beach and traveling to Disney. In addition, some of her favorite times were spent at Hockey games, shopping, casinos and dining out.
Madelyn is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Prendergast, and their children: Diane Saich and her husband, Teddy; Thomas Prendergast; Karen Prendergast; Brian Prendergast and Marissa; and Alice Kontogiannis and her husband, Johnny. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Abigail, Lily, Brynn, and Brody Prendergast, and Maddie and Connie Kontogiannis, her siblings Janet Kelleher, husband Jack, Kathleen Simmons, Michelle Welch, husband Edward, and her brother Michael Bavis, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 10:30 am, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 435 West Street Brockton. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne. Visiting hours will be respectfully omitted.
