Manuel A. DePina, 79, of Lincoln, RI died peacefully Sunday, May 26, 2024 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Care in Providence, RI. He was the husband of the late Maria Louise (Goncalves) DePina.
Born June 1, 1944 in Brava, Cape Verde, he was the son of the late Antonio and Matilda (Anacleto) DePina.
His close friends and relatives know him as "Panei". Manuel was a bright student who completed high school at the top of his class with highest honors. Being the eldest of six, Manuel made the ultimate sacrifice and left his home at the age of 21 to provide for his family. Manuel left Brava and resided in Dakar with his aunt Chilinha before departing to Holland. He began masonry work in Holland with hopes of sending money to support his loving family.
Years later, he migrated to the United States and completed culinary school. He went on to travel to many countries around the world as a chef for Exxon Mobil Shipping Company. Later in life Manuel became a custodian for Bridgewater State College before retiring. Manuel was an amazing cook and remarkable gardener. He enjoyed dancing and playing his ukulele to the sounds of his native music "Morna". Manuel will be remembered for his humor, gentleness, and jokes.
Loving father of Ameila Miranda and David Guzman of Kissimmee FL, Matilda Lopes and husband Jose Lopes of Taunton Ma, Kimberly Fontes and husband Adilson Fontes of Lincoln RI and Stephany DePina of Hanson Ma. Manuel leaves behind ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition, Manuel leaves behind his loving siblings, Estella Martins, Pedro DePina, Joel DePina, Edgar DePina and Marianne Fernandez. Manuel is now reunited with his beautiful wife Maria DePina.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday June 3rd, 4PM-8 PM at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home 165 Belmont St., Brockton, MA. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edith Stein Catholic Church, 71 E. Main St. Brockton MA.Interment at Calvary Cemetery, 99 North Cary St, Brockton, MA.
