Online Obituaries Manuel J. Gomes, 89, of Brockton, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Bay Pointe Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton. He was the husband of Laura Gomes. Born March 16, 1927 in Brava, Cape Verde, he was a son of the late Jose Gomes and Maria (Goncalves) Gomes. In Cape Verde, Manuel worked as a farmer and a miner. He was a resident of Brockton for 40 years. He also worked for the local shoe factories. He was a devoted family man. In addition to his wife Laura, he is survived by his son, Jose Gomes of Brockton; his grandchildren, Bill Gomes, Christina Gomes, Jr. Gomes and Jeannie Gomes; his siblings, Viriato Gomes of Rhode Island and Arminda Gomes of Cape Verde; and his several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Eugenio Gomes and Abraham Gomes. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Thursday, August 11th at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish, 71 East Main St., Brockton at 10:30AM.
