Marcia A. (Pena) Beals of Brockton died Tuesday January 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of John E. Beals. Marcia was born and raised in Brockton, the daughter of Jean Cornwall wife of Alan Cornwall of Virginia and the late John Pena. Marcia was the devoted mother of Kristina Marie Mejil and her two children Antonio and Nathan Mejil of Brockton and John E. Beals, Jr. and his fiancée Brenda and their children Xavier and Nico Sergi Beals of New Bedford. She was the sister of Alan Cornwall, Jr. of Virginia and David Cornwall of Pennsylvania. She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
A lifelong resident of the city of Brockton, Marcia graduated from UMass Boston with her masters in Psychology. As a psychologist, counselor, and program director, Marcia had worked at the Bridgewater Treatment Center, Quincy Mental Health and the Plymouth County Rape Crisis Center.
She will be remembered as a loving, compassionate and beautiful woman with a warm and welcoming embrace. She was an intelligent, articulate woman who loved long conversations, reading and debating. Marcia's family and friends especially loved her loving nature, big green eyes, bright smile and quick wit. She loved dancing, music, jewelry, shopping, cooking and helping others. She loved volunteering throughout her children’s school years at St. Edwards School. Her true joy in her life was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and her cat Shadow.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday 3-6 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 8 am for a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church at 9 am. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
