Obituary

Margaret T. McCarthy (Keohane) “Peggy” age 84, of Brockton, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the West Roxbury Veterans Administration Medical Center. She was the loving wife of Arthur V. “Mac” McCarthy.

Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Margaret (O’Donovan) Keohane. She was formerly of Cambridge and Revere and resided in Brockton for the past 54 years.

Peggy served her country in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1958 and honorably discharged in 1961. She was very proud of her service.

Margaret worked in the admissions and bed control department for 30 years at the former Cardinal Cushing Hospital now known as the Good Samaritan Medical Center and retired in 2007.

Peggy enjoyed Irish music, dancing, walking on the beach, reading, spending time with her husband and family and it gave her joy to see her family happy and content. She would always see the best in everyone and would defend even strangers from a negative comment. Peg was passionate about equal rights, civil rights, and women’s rights. Most of all she was proud of her sixty year marriage, her three kids, and her Irish heritage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Arthur “Art” McCarthy of Walpole, Theresa Flynn of Raleigh, NC, and Kevin McCarthy of Randolph, a sister Geraldine Joyce, of Clearmont, FL, and her grandchildren, Sean Flynn, Ryan Flynn, Aidan Flynn, Dierdre McCarthy, Liam McCarthy, and Lucas McCarthy. She was the sister of the late Ann Germano and Joseph Keohane.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Peggy’s family on Monday, August 22, 2022, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton. A gathering for her funeral procession will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 9:30 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am, in Saint Patrick Church, 335 Main Street, Brockton. Interment with military honors will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
