Marguerite Ann Asci
Marguerite Ann (Hallisey) Asci, 87, was born on October 1, 1919.
She died peacefully on July 10th after a long illness with her family by her side. Marguerite was the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Butler) Hallisey and the sister of June Hallisey of Brockton, who died in infancy. Marguerite, a lifelong resident of Brockton, attended St. Patrick School through high school. She graduated from Bridgewater State College in 1941, earning a BS in Elementary Education and receiving her teacher certification. In mid-life, she returned to the college to earn her Master's degree in Education.
She worked as a teacher of adult education in the Brockton schools as well as an instructor and trainer for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Marguerite served as a substitute elementary school teacher at St. Patrick School. She later taught at St. Edward's School in Brockton for 27 years.
A lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Brockton, she participated in the Ladies Sodality for many years and served as Prefect. She was also a member of the 20th Century Club of Brockton.
Marguerite loved reading, handwork projects and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed skiing vacations with her family and trips to Ireland and Italy with her husband. Beginning in childhood, Marguerite had an interest in the theater and participated in many musical performances. Elocution was one of her passions and she was heard on more than one occasion asking her children to "speak clearly" or use correct grammar - a practice her children now regularly inflict on their own children.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 58 years, Samuel, and their five children, William F. (and Anne) Asci of Mattapoisett, Elizabeth (and David) Hayes of East Bridgewater, James P. (and Paula) Asci of Plympton, Thomas R. (and Dianne) Asci of East Bridgewater, and Marguerite M. (and Mark) Alpert of Wethersfield, CT.
Thirteen grandchildren also survive Marguerite: Peter, Samuel and Michael Asci of Mattapoisett, Patrick, Timothy and Benjamin Hayes of East Bridgewater, Catherine Taylor of Milford, James M. Asci of Manhattan, NY, Elizabeth Asci of Plympton, Gregory and Christine Asci of East Bridgewater and Max and Grace Alpert of Wethersfield, CT.
Marguerite was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Our sadness and sorrow over her loss will be replaced by precious memories of her life.
