Maria Tavares Maria Tavares , 72, of Brockton died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Jose Tavares. Born April 12, 1935 in Cape Verde, she was the daughter of the late Jose Alves and Maria Barbosa. She had been a resident of Brockton for the last 17 years. She also lived in Boston for eight years. She enjoyed cooking. She is survived by her children, Jose Tavares, Casimiro Tavares, Padro Galvao, Marcelino Galvao, Anna Dever, Jo-Ana Galvao, all of Brockton, and Alcides Tavares of Cape Verde; her sister, Antonia Santos Alves of Cape Verde; she is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St. (Rte 123), Brockton on Saturday, June 2nd at 9:00AM thence to St. Edith Stein Parish/St. Edward's Church where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul at 10:00AM.
