Mark H. O'Reilly, 65,of South Chatham, formerly of Rockland and Brockton, died on Thursday, October 17, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer attributed to his exposure to Agent Orange while serving in the Vietnam War.
A beloved son, brother and husband, cherished father and adored "Grampy" and uncle, Mark was born and raised in Brockton to Gerald B. and Phyllis J. (Rivera) O'Reilly. He was a graduate of the Brockton High School, Class of 1966, and Northeastern University.
Mark served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star for Valor and two Purple Hearts as a member of Kilo Company 3rd Battalion, First Marines.
Mark taught in the Brockton Public School system and was the coach of the Brockton High School men's varsity swim team as well as the YMCA age group swim team. Mark also worked as the executive director for the Old Colony YMCA and was the Chief of Staff for Mayor John Yunits. Before retiring, Mark was the Executive Director for the South Shore Habitat for Humanity.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Patricia M. (Tirrell) O'Reilly; his sons Mark D. O'Reilly and his wife Eileen of Colorado Springs, CO and Christopher M. O'Reilly and his wife Emily of Bridgewater, MA; his mother, Phyllis J.(Rivera) O'Reilly; his siblings Kirk O'Reilly of Hull, MA, Kevin O'Reilly of Danville, CA, Patricia Buchanan of Bridgewater, MA, Maureen Powers of Colorado Springs, CO; his three grandchildren, Mark K. O'Reilly, Catherine G. O'Reilly and Lorenzo M. O'Reilly. Mark is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
His steadfast friendship and love for friends and family will be greatly missed.
Funeral Information
A Funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish, 71 East Main St., Brockton on Friday, October 25th at 10:30AM. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00-8:00PM.
