Obituary

Martha Jean (Clark) Simpson, of Raynham, MA, January 24, 1943 – December 24, 2021 She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Marvin H. and Pauline (Turnidge) Clark and son-in-law Dennis Staas. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, George D. Simpson; daughters Esther Simpson, Sarah Connor (John), and Julia Staas; grandchildren Andrew Simpson Silva, G. Barrett Heeter, Victoria Staas, Aaron Connor, and Matthew Connor; great grandchildren Kiana Silva and Andrew Silva, Jr.; sisters, Mary Hartman, Sharon Watson, and brother Marvin Clark Jr. as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Martha was born in Big Spring, TX and grew up as a pastor's daughter throughout the state. She was an honor student and gifted speaker which earned her several oratorical awards. Compelled by her love and devotion to her Lord and Savior, she surrendered to the call she received as a young child to become a missionary. She attended and graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO where she met and married her soulmate, the man of her dreams, George Simpson. Together with their 6-month-old daughter, Esther, they journeyed by ship to Brazil to begin their life's work among the Brazilian people. In Brazil, she served alongside her husband and together they planted several churches, founded and taught in a Bible institute, and established an American school for missionary children. As missionaries, they inspired many Brazilian young people to become pastors and leaders and to win souls for Christ. Martha was also a talented singer, pianist and organist. She invested herself in others by directing choirs, training music leaders, as well as organizing and leading women's and children's ministries. At the age of 45, even after suffering a life-threatening stroke which left her partially paralyzed, Martha and George continued their ministry as missionaries in Brazil and then in the US with the Portuguese speaking community around the Boston area. Throughout the journey of her later years, Martha was lovingly cared for by her devoted husband as they continued to minister and serve the Lord faithfully, walking hand in hand, as one, heart to heart. Martha's love for her Brazilian brothers and sisters in Christ always remained strong until the end. By the fruits of her labor, no one will ever doubt she served the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul. She can finally sing together with the angels, marveling in the radiance of her Lord, as He speaks, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" Calling hours begin at 9AM Monday, January 3 in the Temple Baptist Church, 540 Manley St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379. A memorial service will be held at 11AM. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne, MA at 2PM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ-8avuJcPk
