Obituary

Martin David Hancock, Sr. Martin David Hancock, Sr. , 71, of Brockton died Thursday, July 12, 2007 at the Blue Hills Alzheimer's Center in Stoughton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Carol (Alfieri) Hancock. Born May 24, 1936 in Sayre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Erland A. Hancock and Mildred. D. (Alton) Hancock. He was a lifelong resident of Brockton. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1954 where he was a four sport letterman. He then attended Boston University where he played football. Mr. Hancock was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked at Bird and Son Roofing Company for 18 years. He also worked for the Boston MBTA for eight years. He retired as a Brockton city employee. Mr. Hancock was a Brockton school committee member for 16 years. He was also on the Brockton Park Commission for six years. He received the first Annual Louis Angelo Award for contributions to the Brockton school system. He was also one of the founding members of the Boston Ronald McDonald House where he volunteered as house manager until his death. He was a coach for the Brockton Pony League, Brockton Midget Football, Brockton West Little League, and Legion Baseball Post 35. He was also former president of Brockton Midget Football. He was one of the founders of the Spartan AC Legion baseball team which he also coached and won the state championship in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Alfieri) Hancock of Brockton; his children, Martin D. Hancock, Jr. of Middleboro, Lucinda A. Hampe of Randolph, Theodore Hancock and his wife Janet of Brockton, Michael P. Hancock and his wife Marianne of Brockton, John M. Hancock and his wife Victoria of Raynham, Daniel M. Hancock and his wife Kelley, James L. Hancock and his wife Kathleen, Christopher P. Hancock and his wife Jessica, all of Brockton; his siblings, John D. Hancock of Lakeville, Erland A. Hancock of Hanson, Joseph P. Hancock of Norton, Eileen Cesarini of Brockton; he is also survived by 26 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late Paul Gregory and brother of the late Maurice W. Hancock and Richard F. Hancock. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton on Monday, July 16th at 8:00AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes, 433 West St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Sunday 2:00PM-6:00PM.
