Online Obituaries Mary Akeke, 88, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Southwood of Norwell Nursing Center after a brief illness. Born December 10, 1928 in Brockton, she was a lifelong resident in the city of Brockton as well as a Brockton High School graduate. The daughter of the late Louis G. Akeke and Josephine H. (Akeke) Akeke. Mary worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 40 years in the Public Welfare Division and retired in 1988. She was a communicant of St. Theresa Maronite Catholic Church in Brockton. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed gardening, travelling, the color blue and all sports. She was a proud Boston Celtics season ticket holder for over 33 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends and captured all moments as she was deemed the family photographer. Mary spent her spare time involved with multiple clubs and associations. She is survived by her brother, George Akeke; her nieces, Theresa (Akeke) OBrien and her husband Timothy and Laura Akeke and her wife Lataisha; her great niece, Megan OBrien; her great nephew, Matthew OBrien; her sister-in-law, Rose Akeke. She was the sister of the late Sarah Akeke, Albert Akeke, Bahea Betty Akeke and Anna Kay. She was the best friend of over 50 years to the late Ginger Ober. Funeral Information Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Wednesday from 8:00AM-10:30AM followed by the Service of Devine Mysteries in St. Theresa Maronite Catholic Church, 343 North Main St., Brockton at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
