Mary Ann Silva, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2021 at the Sachem Center for Health and Rehabilitation in East Bridgewater, where she was a resident for the past two years.
Born November 6, 1936, in Easton, Mary Ann was a daughter of the late Manuel and Evangeline (Santos) Silva. Raised in Stoughton, she graduated from Stoughton High School in 1954, where she excelled as an athlete. She was the first in her family to pursue a college education, graduating from Bridgewater State College with bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as a second master's degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University. She taught physical education for several years before becoming a high school guidance counselor, in addition to coaching varsity field hockey, gymnastics, softball, and basketball. She devoted most of her career to the students of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School until her retirement in 1997. In retirement, she and her dear friend and companion, the late Kathleen O'Toole, made their home in Falmouth, MA and Naples, Florida and enjoyed golfing, dining out with friends, walking along the beaches of Cape Cod and Florida, and cheering on their Boston sports teams. In recent years they resided together at Heights Crossing Assisted Living in Brockton before their final days at the Sachem Center.
Mary Ann was a dedicated and loving daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and friend. She was kind and generous, often putting the needs of others ahead of her own. She will be missed dearly.
Mary Ann is survived by her nieces and their husbands: Judi and Beau Smith of Bridgewater, Natalie and Bruce Orcutt of Brockton, Jeanine and Michael Ferrini of Quincy, and Bohuska Silva, wife of her late nephew Stephen Silva of Belcamp, MD as well as several cousins, great-nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her siblings, the late Helen Irene DaSilva, Jerome Silva, Manuel Silva, Natalie (Silva) Powers, Joseph Silva, and Judith E. Silva.
Following cremation, a private burial service will be held at Melrose Cemetery in Brockton, at a later date.
