Mary Virginia "Ginny" (Long) Curtis Mary Virginia "Ginny" (Long) Curtis , 91, of Brockton, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Braemoor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Henry E. Curtis. Born November 1, 1918 in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late John M. Long and Elizabeth (Smith) Long. A lifelong Brockton resident, she graduated from St. Patrick High School. Mrs. Curtis was a retired secretary; she worked for the City of Brockton School Department for several years. Ginny was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Brockton where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and an Alter Server. She was a founding member of Brockton Interfaith Community, a board member of the Brockton Neighborhood Health Center, involved with the Council on Aging, a neighborhood Crime Watch Leader, she was politically active as a member of the Democratic City Committee and worked on many campaigns and committees in Brockton. She led fundraising efforts over the years for the Brockton Public Library, Brockton Library Foundation, St. Patrick Church and the Council on Aging. Ginny was one of Brockton Neighborhood Health Center's founding board members and was honored by the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers last year with the Joseph M. Smith Consumer award for her outstanding service to the board over the years. In 1999 she received the Enterprise Champion of the City award for her extraordinary contributions to the city and was also awarded Woman of the Year by the Commission on Women's Issues. She is survived by her children, Nancy E. Curtis of Monument Beach and John N. Curtis and his wife Susan of Brockton; her grandchildren, Gina Curtis and John Curtis both of Brockton; her great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan, Jacoby and Nicholas; her sister, Margaret McGuire of South Yarmouth. She was the sister of the late John I. Long, Joseph P. Long, Francis Long and Thomas Long. Funeral Information Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Tuesday, September 21st from 9:00-10:30AM thence to St. Patrick Church, 335 Main St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
