Mary Minerva Tinto, née Maria Carmela Minerva, of St. Augustine, Florida, formerly of Brockton, Quincy, and Hanover, Massachusetts, died peacefully on June 3, 2024, at the Earl Hadlow Hospice Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Mary was the beloved wife for 57 years to Guy R. Tinto, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Nice, France.
Born at home on July 16, 1927 to Nicola Minerva and Rosaria Minerva, née Grilli, Mary was raised in Brockton, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1945, received her Bachelor's Degree in 1949, and then earned her Master's Degree in Education, both from Bridgewater State University. She continued teaching for 33 years in the Quincy, Massachusetts school system, retiring after 37 years.
Mary loved her family, loved to travel, and loved people. Her friendships formed during her 24 years in Florida were cherished. She especially enjoyed her association with the Hibiscus Circle of the St. Augustine Garden Club, and her involvement at her parish, the Cathedral Basilica Parish of St. Augustine, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and substitute teacher at the Cathedral Parish School.
Mary and Guy traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She was the loving mother of Mark Tinto, Master Sergeant (retired), U.S. Army, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Mélisse Keegan of Weymouth, Massachusetts. Mary's grandsons Kyle, Tyler, and Dominic Keegan were the joys of her life.
Mary's sisters, Angela Piscitelli, Italia Minerva, Lucia Doherty, Antoinetta Meier, brother Sabino Minerva, nephew Nicholas Minerva, and godson David Costa preceded her to heaven. Mary leaves behind her nephews, Gerald Doherty and Mark Doherty, and nieces, Donna Poliseno, Carol Minerva, Rosemary Grosso, Joanne Eklund, as well as many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
A funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. on July 16th, at St. Benedict the Moor Mission in St. Augustine, Florida, with Father Ignatius officiating.
