Obituary

Matilda Rosa (Da Rosa) Lopes of Brockton, 88, (formerly of Roxbury), passed away on Friday, February 3rd peacefully at her home. She was born in Brava, Cape Verde on July 8, 1934, to the late Luis Baptista and Maria Da Rosa.

Wife of the late Manuel Lopes. Beloved mother to Mariame Pires and her husband Manuel of Brockton, the late John Teixeira and his wife Clara of Brockton, the late Brian Kawdji and his wife Maria of Quincy. Sister to Clara DaGraca, Luisa Andrade, Luis Baptista and the late Orlando Da Rosa.

She was the loving "Vovo" to her 9 grandchildren (Sicilia, Emanuel, Johnny, Christopher, Stephanie, John Jr., Matilda "Tilly", Denise, Eva) and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many cousins and dear friends.

Matilda had incredible love for her family and expressed this in her passion for abundant home cooking, especially her "pastels". Family and friends will always fondly remember Matilda for her warm heart. Her strength made her the "Vovo" of her family! A true family trait that now carries on throughout her descendant family bloodline

Visitation will take place at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont Street, Brockton on Monday February 6th from 5 to 8 pm. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Edith Stein Church, 71 East Main Street, Brockton on Tuesday, February 7th at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
