Michael Emmanuel Daphnis

Michael Emmanuel Daphnis, affectionately referred to as Mica, was born on November 26, 1949, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to the late Jacques Emmanuel and the late Josephine Chery Emmanuel. Following her late brother, Wilsor Jacques Emmanuel, Mica was the second of ten children, and everyone’s favorite sister! After primary school, she attended Centre d’Etudes Senghor for her secondary education, during this time her relationship with Christ became real and she got baptized at the age of 13. During her teenage years, Mica spent her summers at Madame Tertulien where she received her certificate in haute couture (dress making). For higher education, she studied Laboratory Sciences, cosmetology, as well as theology at L’Ecole Theologique de Bolosse. While pursuing her education she regularly attended multiple prayer groups, including; Grande Cohorte, Devouees pour Christ, and Vermisseau.

With her big, beautiful smile and inviting demeanor, Mica was the person everyone could turn to. She was a source of comfort not only to her siblings, but also to every church and community that she was ever a part of. At New Jerusalem Evangelical Baptist Church, where she was a founding member, Mica was the person you could confide in, the one who would pray with you, encourage you, and lovingly point you back to Jesus no matter what you were going through. And after all that, she would make sure that your belly was full! One of her favorite things to say during a meal was “S’ak nan vent ou, se li’k pa’w! S’ak nan kwen bouche ou, pa pou ou, ou ka tousee’l tombe”! (What’s in your stomach that’s what’s yours. What’s in the corner of your mouth isn’t for you because you could cough and it could fall).

While still young and completing her studies in Port-au-Prince, one day after a church service, Mica was introduced to a young, handsome preacher named Jean Joseph Daphnis, also known as Joe. They began dating and quickly fell in love, lovingly referring to one another as “Choupy” and “Michou”. But after about 7 months, Joe left Haiti to go to the Bahamas. Thereafter, they maintained a long-distance relationship for about four years.

During this time, Mica migrated to the United States; first settling in New York, before making Boston, MA, her home. During their time apart, Mica and Joe maintained their relationship through letters. Then, one day, Joe decided to surprise Mica; he just showed up at her front door in Boston and proposed. Of course, she said yes! Three days later, on Joe’s 30th birthday, March 19, 1974, they were married.

God richly blessed their marriage, allowing them to grow in faith and love. They were also blessed with four beautiful children. Their firstborn Ruth, arrived in 1975, followed by Emmanuel, Beverly, and Obed. We can’t forget to mention her beloved niece Karen, whom Mica affectionately referred to as her firstborn.

As her family grew, Mica worked tirelessly to balance faith, family and work. She was truly a well-rounded, hard-working, Proverbs 31 woman!

In addition to caring for her family, Mica was a faithful member of Vermisseau and Jericho, two separate prayer groups that met weekly. She also hosted weekly prayer meetings in her home. Prayer wasn’t simply something Mica passively participated in, it truly was the pillar that her life was built upon.

Outside of church, Mica held the title of Mental Health Worker at Paul A. Dever State School in Taunton, MA. There, she served individuals with severe developmental disabilities with patience, compassion, and dignity. During this same time, Mica pursued and earned a degree in Business Administration from Quincy College. With this education, Mica supported her husband, Pastor Joe, and became a co-founder of Mission Philanthropique de Chambellan, also known as the “Chambellan Project”.

In Jeremie, Chambellan, Haiti, Mica cared for her youngest son Obed, while simultaneously playing a vital role in planting numerous churches and operating a school that has served thousands of children in the community for over four decades. Amongst the people there, Mica was lovingly known as “Maren Peuple La” (the God mother of the people). This name truly reflected the love and devotion she poured into so many lives.

In her later years, Mica developed dementia and breast cancer, which eventually spread to her bones. Even in the midst of immense pain, she remained steadfast in her faith. She spent countless hours on multiple prayer lines, and through it all, her big, beautiful smile still remained.

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Mica went home to be with her Lord. During her final three days on earth, she spoke very little as she prepared to transition. But after a very long silence, the final words she spoke were; “I see Jesus”.

Our hearts grieve her absence, but we rejoice in knowing that she is now at home with the Lord. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her beloved husband, Pastor Joe, her children, Ruth, Manny (Fredlyne), Beverly (Jermaine), Obed (Rosa), Karen (Neil), Her wonderful sisters, Ginette, Josette and Gaby, her grandchildren; Hakeem, Raphael, Israel, Hadassah, Isabella, Bryce, Katherine, Shiloh, Becca and Benjamin, and her chosen family; Micheline, Emmanuel, and Johnathon Pierre. And of course, her many cousins, nieces, nephews, church family, and friends who she truly loved like family. We will forever love you Soeur Mica, and you will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Those of us who remain, will continue to fight the good fight so that one day we will see you again in glory!
