Michael Aaron Kujanpaa, 33, of East Bridgewater lost his battle with addiction on Monday, August 9, 2021.
Born on August 26, 1987 in Stoughton, he was the son of Susan (Willis) Silva and Stephen P. Kujanpaa.
Michael enjoyed riding dirt bikes and quads, golfing, snowboarding, fixing cars, therapeutic art and giving haircuts.
Michael is survived by his beloved son Kamdin Aaron Kujanpaa and his mother Katelyn Noone; his mother Susan Silva and her husband Richard; his father Stephen Kujanpaa and his wife Charlene; his sisters Colleen Thomas, Jennifer Suchocki and her husband Jake and his brother Zachary Silva; and his nieces and nephews Tyler, Jack, Lucy, Avery, Lizzie, RJ and Weston. As well as many Aunts, Uncles and cousins and friends whom he loved dearly.
Michael's battle with addiction began after two hand surgeries and prescribed oxycontin. He fought relentlessly to overcome his addiction with the help of his family and, most recently, his Recovery Coaches, Mike Dias and Hayle Kennedy. Michael often had times of sober clarity, victory and freedom. We celebrate and remember those times. He met and cherished many chasing recovery and did his best to come alongside a brother or sister to help them in the fight.
As a teenager, Michael was happiest when he would spend his weekends working at Capeway Rovers Motocross track. He loved that it was just a walk through the woods from his childhood home in Middleboro. Michael enjoyed adventuring with his good friends Ricky and Matt. Whether in a car, on a dirt bike, quad or mountain with a snowboard, they were always testing the limits, living in the thrills of life and generally having a good time.
Ten years ago, Michael found love when he met Katelyn Noone. It was an abiding love that will forever be marked by their years of friendship, trials, joys and commitment to their son, Kamdin. Kamdin was Michael's life and his reason for striving. He found unexplainable joy and purpose in spending time together with Kamdin watching movies, playing cars, riding bikes, throwing a football, teaching him how to ride a minibike and just snuggling on the sofa. Michael's connection to Kamdin was an affectionate, genuine, visceral bond that will live on in his absence.
Michael found reward in working with his hands and using his strength to earn a living. He enjoyed a number of trades throughout the years; Masonry, Excavation, HVAC, Snow Plowing, and Asphalt Paving. No matter what other trade he worked in, he always returned to his passion, paving. It was a trade in which he was able to expend all his physical and mental energy creating something he and others could be proud of. For the last four years he worked for Morgado Asphalt & Concrete Services, and true to his nature, he didn't just give his labor but also his dedication and love to his employer and friend Adrian, his wife Sarah and their children.
Michael very often would show love through acts of service, which he learned from his dad, Steve. Michael could fix almost anything with a gear or a motor; from a bike to a car to an asphalt paver. He often offered to help build or repair something, landscape a home or even give a haircut. If Michael gave to you through acts of service, you can be certain he loved you.
He and his mother had a special bond, Michael knew that no matter how difficult his journey got she was there holding open a door, cheering him on, offering unconditional love and support. She will miss their car rides together where lots of great conversations and endless amounts of hope were shared.
He and his brother Zack though 15 years apart in age, worked on cars and whatever heap of junk they bought off of facebook, shared so many great adventures, Quading together at the bogs in East Bridgewater, Snowboarding at Wachusett, sitting around the firepit in the backyard, and just doing things brothers do. Zack will miss watching late night movies in Mike's room.
We will always remember running barefoot in the summer, drinking out of the hose, making forts, swimming at John's Pond, riding bikes and building fires in the wood stove. We hold onto holidays and birthdays together, snowmobiling in Maine, Disney World, cook outs and flying kites. The sound of Michael's laugh, his car exhaust and the shuffle of his work boots stay with us. We will always feel the strength of his hug and the enduring love he had for us.
Michael loved deeply, was loved deeply and will be missed deeply.
Funeral services will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., (Rt28) West Bridgewater on Wednesday, August 18th at 11:00AM. Private interment will follow. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00PM-7:00PM.
