Michael Francis P. Long, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at his home in Bridgewater with family by his side on Saturday July 9, 2022.
Mike was born on September 27, 1930 in Brockton, MA to the late Francis E. Long and Margaret M. Kelleher Long. Mike loved spending his time at the family's summer home in Hyannis where he swam, sailed, fished, worked on the boats going to and from Nantucket and developed a great love of the ocean. He later shared the family home and his love of the ocean with his own wife and children.
He met his wife of 62 years, Ann M. LeMoine at a young Democrats meeting and they were married on July 30, 1960. They raised 5 children together and loved having them all together whenever possible.
Mike worked for the phone company starting out at New England TEL & TEL as a lineman, retiring in 1994 after 33 years as a Contract Work Inspector. During that time he was very active in the Enterprise Club, St. Ann's parish and the group Ireland's Own. Mike loved his Irish heritage and enjoyed working and attending all the events associated with Irelands Own, even serving as president for a period of time. He enjoyed his many trips to Ireland, visiting distant relatives and spending time in the pub conversing with the locals.
Mike is survived by his wife Ann M. LeMoine Long of Bridgewater; his children, Jan E. Collins (Simon Ritt) of Somerville, Maura A. Long of Falmouth, Erin M. Long (Beth Fidellow) of Winchester, Katie M. Kinney of Raynham and Michael D. Long of Falmouth; his sister, Pat Brown of LaMirada, CA; his 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; hisbrothers-in-law, Philip (Dave) Wrin of Hingham, Gustov Stickley of NY and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home ,441 South Main St., (Rt28) West Bridgewater on Tuesday morning from 9:00AM to 10:30AM thence to St. Ann Church 103 North Main St., West Bridgewater where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's name may be made to Old Colony Hospice or the Bridgewater Firefighter's Association.
