Obituary

Michael G Palandro "Mike", 97, of Bridgewater passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater after a period of failing health. Michael was born in Corona, New York the son of the late Michael and Mary (Cisco) Palandro. He spent the first part of his life in New York (Corona, then Massapequa) before moving to Brockton and meeting his wife Louise K. (Sousa) Palandro-they spent most of their married life living in Brockton, then later moved to Bridgewater. After graduating high school, Mike enlisted in the Army where he served his country from 1942-1945 and was a World War II Veteran. After coming out of the Army, Mike spent his entire professional career in banking-first at the Hong Kong Bank in NYC then later at several Shawmut Banks in Massachusetts right up until he retired. Next to his family, Mike's second love was golfing. Affectionately nicked named "Iron Mike" due to his almost scratch golf game and the fact he was "Hitting the links" well into his 80s, Mike truly loved to golf and spent many a day on the course with friends, and his nephews. Mike stayed active not only with golfing into his 80s, but with playing sports with his grandchildren as well and it was common for him to be seen out for a walk, throwing the ball around and shooting hoops as a way to spend time with them! Always active and always with his family! Mike is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Louise K (Sousa) Palandro and his daughter Lisa Stefanich and her husband Johnny and their two children-Renie and AJ. His two grandkids were the lights of his life! Also survived by his sister in law Nancy Sousa and many cousins. Michael also had many nieces and nephews he shared very close relationships with -among the closest were his five nephews who he considered sons; James Shaw, Jr., Charlie Shaw, Michael Shaw, Stephen Shaw and Danny Shaw (as well as their wives, partner and children) He is predeceased by his siblings Rosario, Palandro, Anthony Palandro, Carmela (Palandro) Bloch and Frances (Palandro) Shaw, and his bothers in law James Shaw Sr and Larry Sousa, Sr. A special heartfelt thank you goes out to the entire staff at Life Care Center in West Bridgewater. Words cannot express our family's gratitude in the care and love you gave to Mike in the few short months he was there. We will forever be grateful! A Private Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Thomas Aquinas Church followed by a Private burial in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne. The family will plan a celebration of Michael's life when it is permitted at a later date.
