Surrounded by loved ones, Nelson Jorge Barbosa, age 35 of Brockton, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021. He was born in Mato, Brava, Cabo Verde to parents Domingas Lopes Lobo and João Barbosa Matos on August 13, 1985. At the early age of six, Nelson migrated to the United States where he later established roots in Brockton, MA with his beloved wife, Maria Jesus Goncalves Barbosa, and dearest son, Nasaiah Barbosa Teixeira. Nelson was, first and foremost, a family man who lived a values-based life. From an early age, he was clear on who he was and the things that gravely mattered to him – his family and loved ones. Accordingly, his greatest work during his time on earth was building profoundly loving and meaningful relationships. Nelson was a man loved by many; he especially cherished his role as husband, father and son. Wise beyond his years, Nelson took pleasure in the simple things in life – hosting holiday celebrations, throwing a good summer barbeque and engaging in deep conversations over a shared meal or drink. Nelson rightfully prided himself on being genuine and real – two values which he encouraged his family and friends to also live by. Nelson is survived by: his wife, Maria Barbosa, son, Nasaiah Teixeira, mother, Domingas Lobo, father, João Matos and his wife Auxilia Matos, stepfather, Alcides Gomes, grandmothers, Oriza Lopes and Julia Matos, grandfather, Napoleon Lobo and his wife Adelina Lobo; seven siblings: Orisa Cherenfant and her husband Eli Cherenfant, Esq., Jeff Gomes, Kevin Gomes, Antonio Barbosa, Candida Barbosa and her husband Michael Rockingham Jr., José Barbosa and Carlos Matos; six nieces and nephews: Maverick Cherenfant, Margaux Cherenfant, Faith Barbosa, Patricia Barbosa, Angel Barbosa, Dyllan Barbosa and Michael Rockingham III; and a long number of relatives and close friends. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Nelson throughout his life and especially during his last days. Calling hours commemorating his life will be held at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton, MA on Thursday, June 17th from 4:00PM-8:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main St., Brockton on Friday, June 18th at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
