Online Obituaries Nicholas HERMES Boyatis departed on Thursday, May 21, 2015 in Charlton. Hermes was a resident of The Overlook Masonic Home for the last 4 years at the time of his death he was 89 years old. Hermes was born in Brockton, the son of Charles N. Boyatis and Bessie (Alexoules) Boyatis. He was preceded in death by his lifelong friend and business partner Jane Mathorne. Hermes and Jane made their home together in Brockton. Hermes is survived by his friend, Sophie Boulis of Norwood. He is also survived by his sister, Estelle Cassells of Wellfleet and several nephews and nieces. Hermes family owned and operated Olympic Market, a small Greek market in Brockton for many years. Hermes was a man of faith and was, at the time of his death, the oldest living president of the parish council of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. He was very proud of his Greek heritage and was a member of AHEPA American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion. Hermes was always full of energy and a very caring and giving man. He was a Veteran of the armed forces. Hermes served as an officer of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company. He was a proud member of several Masonic Lodges- Baalis Sanford Lodge, Saint George Lodge, Union Lodge, Cawnacome Lodge, Rabboni Lodge and Massachusetts Lodge. He also was a member of The Hellenic Square and Compass Club. Hermes was a Shriner and was created a noble of Aleppo Shrine in 1974. Noble Boyatis was a master of the written word and served as an Associate Editor of Aleppo Shrine News. As an Assistant Editor he wrote many interesting stories about other nobles and their accomplishments. His work brought many dromedary awards to Aleppo Temple from the Imperial Shrine of North America. In 2008 he received the Robert Gardner Wilson award, which is the highest honor to be presented to a Shriner. During his service to the Shrine he wore the Fezzes of Adjutant, Public Relations, Ambassador among others. Hermes had a God given gift for saying the right thing at the right time. He will be surely missed by all those he met as he traveled along lifes pathway. You only needed to meet Hermes once and you would have a lifelong friendship with him and him with you. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., Brockton on Wednesday, May 27th at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00PM.
