Nicholas A. Sylvester, 88, of Brockton, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Louise (Zilevich) Sylvester for 61 years.
Born July 12, 1925 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Eugene Sylvester and Mary (Silvestri) Sylvester.
Nick was a Lineman for Brockton Edison Company for 42 years.
He was a member of the Brockton YMCA for over 75 years, former member of Thorny Lea Golf Club for 25 years and a member of Brockton Sons of Italy and served as former President.
He was a dear lifetime friend of the late Rocky Marciano as he had trained and worked out with him for many years and attended all of his fights.
He organized and ran many local road races. He was also a volunteer worker for the Boston Marathon, Pan Mass Challenge and Boston's New Year's Eve First Night for many years.
He was a lifelong Brockton and Cape Cod resident.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Denise Sylvester of Brockton; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Anthony Sylvester, Caroline Whitman and Louisa Cirelli.

Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Saturday, December 14th at 9:00AM thence to St. Michael's Church, 87 North Main St., Avon where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Friday 3:00-7:00PM.
