Nicola A. Vacca, of Carver, MA passed away peacefully, Saturday February 10, 2018 at home, surrounded by his family after a short illness. Nick was born and raised in Brockton, son of the late Rosina and Nicola Vacca. Nick served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. During his service he was injured while heroically moving a burning gasoline tank away from the base. He was married to Mary A. (MacKay) Vacca for 57 years. Nick graduated from Brockton High School, then obtained his degree in engineering from Wentworth Institute of technology . He worked at various manufacturing facilities, and retired from Shaws Warehouse after many years. Nick will be missed dearly by his wife, Mary, and his 3 children, Rosemary Holbrook and her husband Craig of East Bridgewater, Phyllis Krastanov and Robert Carroll of West Bridgewater, and Nicholas Vacca of Norton, MA. He was "Buddy" to his 4 grandchildren; Mara Holbrook of NY,NY, Victoria Holbrook of East Bridgewater, Rose Roussell - married to Jeremy Roussell of Plymouth and Alex Krastanov of West Bridgewater. Nick, who could speak 4 languages, was a lifetime learner and had many interests including science, history, politics, technology, cars, geography and current events. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards. He enjoyed volunteering at the Plymouth senior center where he brought good cheer, stories, laughter and a deck of cards. Nick touched many hearts in his life and made many friends. Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main Street (RT28) on Thursday, February 15th at 9:00AM thence to St. Ann's Church, 103 North Main Street, West Bridgewater where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00PM-7:00PM.
