Nyssa A. Rowell , age 17, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2020 surrounded by her family in Brockton, MA. She was born in October 2002 to Raquel Robinson. Nyssa was a student at Brockton High School and a creatively inspirational teenager who found various ways to showcase her talents. At Brockton High she participated in a performing arts program through Act One: Scene One and attended art classes at the Fuller Art Museum. In 2015, she was invited to participate in a public speaking event at Bridgewater State College and received an award. During her time in high school, she regularly volunteered at the onsite day care center, tutored students who needed help with math and had aspirations to pursue a career in acting or fashion. She enjoyed exploring New York with her family, going to concerts, spending quality time with her great-grandmother in Boston, and recently had the brief privilege of experiencing the precious moments of motherhood.
It was through the love and support of her family especially her baby son, Andrew, that motivated her to persevere in her fight against brain cancer. Although it is with great sadness that her life was cut tragically short, the beautiful memories of her laugh, smile, and vibrant personality will remain with her loved ones forever. She is survived by many family members including her Son, Andrew; her Mother, Raquel; her Sister Brianna; Brother Nathen; Grandparents, Larry and Gail; Great-Grandmother, Margie; and Aunt Elena.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Boston Children's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Medical Center, and Jessica Barker. It is through your tremendous efforts and compassion that they were able to extend her life longer so we could have more precious moments with Nyssa.
