Oliver B. Chandler, Jr., age 89 of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully at home with his family, July 10, 2016. Oliver was the loving husband of the late Nora R. (Sullivan) Chandler. Born, raised and educated in Brockton, he was the son of the late Oliver B. and Alice (Berger) Chandler. He was a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the Navy and served during World War II, Korea and in Lebanon. He was present for protecting the Battleship USS Missouri for the signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender in 1945. For 19 years he was a pipefitter at the General Dynamics Shipyard in Quincy. Oliver was a Weeblos Leader and Boy Scout Leader of Troop 7 in Brockton, a member of the American Legion, Bridgewater Senior Center Volunteer, and member and volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was an avid NASCAR and New England Sports fan and enjoyed time with his children, grandchildren, fishing and boating.
Oliver is survived by his children Deborah Mudway of Shrewsbury, Michael Harrison of Bridgewater, William Chandler of Virginia Beach, VA, Christine Chandler of Chesapeake, VA, David Chandler of Melbourne, FL, Lance Chandler of Virginia Beach, VA, Thomas and William Fasano both of Charlestown, MA; ten grandchildren, Michael Harrison, Jr., Christopher Harrison, Rachel Mudway, Tara, Cheyne, Ashley, and Troy Chandler, Thomas Jr., Richard and Gina Fasano; and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of Patricia Norcott of Hanover, Jean Gerrior of Hanson, Richard Chandler of Florida and the late Robert and Ronald Chandler. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday 4-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 9am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, West Bridgewater at 10am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
