IN LOVING MEMORY OF
O.W. "Otis"
Woods
January 1, 1919 – April 16, 2025
O. W. Woods was born April 13, 1947 in Carroll County Mississippi. He fell asleep in death on April 16, 2025. In 1965, he left Mississippi and arrived in Brockton, Massachusetts, which became his home.
O.W. Woods known to many as Otis and more fondly as Goodie to close friends and family. However, he was Daddy to his girls. Goodie was the kind of man who found joy in the simple things, being outside, working with his hands and spending time with those he loved. He spent much of his life working in asphalt paving/construction, taking pride in knowing that his hard work would last for years to come. Goodie loved the outdoors, spending much of his time sitting under the trees outside his home talking with his neighbors or simply taking in the quiet of nature. During the summer, you would find him outside playing cards or at cookouts laughing with his friends. When it was time to wind down, he had a soft spot for old Westerns—finding comfort in those classic tales of grit, loyalty, and quiet strength. They suited him. Just like those cowboys, he did not need a lot of noise or attention—he was steady, dependable, and full of heart. Most importantly, Goodie LOVED his family and friends.
His parents W.M. Woods and Odessa Hudson Woods predecease Otis in death.
Otis leaves behind his beloved daughters Wanda Massiah (Ian), Tremeta Rose (Charles), La Toya Woods, Odessa Fernandes, Rebecca Woods & Tristan Fort Smith (God Son).
He was Granddaddy to Ariel Thomas, Jordan Wiggins, Xavier Massiah, Zuri Massiah, Kaleb Rose, and Taylen Woods.
Otis was the loving brother to his twin sister Gladys Cole, Walda Woods (sister in law), William Woods Jr (deceased), Annie Eva Banks Scales (deceased), Annie Claire (deceased), and James O Woods (deceased).
Otis is also survived by, Mary A Woods his former wife and the mother of his three eldest daughters, who remained a close long-time friend for over 60 years.
He was Uncle Goodie to a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own.
The family would also like to extend a warm thank you to Ligia Goncalves, Jose Cardoso, & Family who became a second family to Otis for over 15 years, as well as his Sullivan Tower friends that became his family.
He will be missed deeply by those who knew him, and remembered for the honest, hardworking, and kind soul he was.
Daddy, we will continue to make you proud and hold you close in our hearts. But for now, rest until we see you again, we love you.
Calling hours on Friday, May 2nd from 12:00PM-4:00PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton. Private Cremation will follow.
