Patricia A. "Patsy" Smith, 88, a lifelong resident of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a lengthy illness.
Born September 20, 1932 in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. Smith and Mary Edna (Walsh) Smith. Raised in Brockton, Patsy graduated from Brockton High School in 1950 and subsequently graduated from Sargent College Boston University in 1954 where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education. She was the recipient of many awards for her academic excellence.
Patsy began her teaching career in the Weymouth Public Schools and subsequently moved to the Newton Public Schools where she worked for many years before her retirement. She was recognized with several teaching awards for her outstanding performance.
As a co-founder of the Sargent College Diners Club, Patsy stayed very active with this wonderful social group for over thirty years.
Patsy had lived in her family Brockton home for 80 years. For twenty years, she owned her summer cottage in Eastham, where she enjoyed the Cape Cod National Seashore. She had countless lifetime friends who she would constantly stay in contact with, in person and especially over the telephone. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton.
Patsy is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand nieces, and great-grand nephews. She was the sister of the late John "Jack" Smith, Thomas "Snooky" Smith, and James "Spiffy" Smith.
Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Tuesday, June 8 from 9:30AM-11:00AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
