Paul J. Burns, 75, of Pocasset and formerly of Brockton, passed away September 16, 2013 after a sudden illness. He was the loving husband of Constance M. (Bailey) Burns for 50 years.
Born on December 17, 1937 in Dorchester, he was the son of the late John Burns and Irene (Finneran) Burns. Paul was a "Double Eagle" graduating from Boston College High School and Boston College. He later earned his Master's in Education from Boston State College
Paul was a history teacher for 35 years at Brockton High School. After retiring from teaching he continued to give to his community working as a Deputy Sherriff at the Plymouth County Sherriff's Department and serving as chairman of the Brockton Housing Authority Board.
Paul and his wife Constance later moved to Pocasset where he became an active member of his parish, St. John the Evangelist. Paul always enjoyed telling stories, taking walks along Cape Cod Canal with his wife, helping friends, watching Boston sports teams, taking boat trips in Boston Harbor, and most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Irene Burns of Easton, Ted Burns and his wife Vivien of Chapel Hill, NC, and Jim Burns and Michael Burns of Boston; his grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher, and William; his sisters, Mary McGaugh and Barbara Burns of Boston; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Elaine Hastings.
Funeral Information
A funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul on Monday, September 23rd at 11:00 AM in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 841 Shore Road, Pocasset. Interment will follow in Cataumet Cemetery. Calling hours at the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Sunday from 3:00-7:00PM.
