Pauline (Nanos) Pappas, 93, passed away Sunday, April 28 at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. She was the wife of the late James (Big Jim) Pappas of Brockton.
She was born January 23, 1926 in Waltham, MA. She was the daughter of Andrew and Theodora (Linas) Nanos of Politsani, Greece. She was predeceased by her two brothers William and Gregory Nanos.
She was a woman ahead of her time wanting a career in fashion following high school. She studied under the well-known Madame Olga Kosakova and became an avid seamstress and milliner. She often made and wore her own designs.
She loved to cook and bake. Pauline's bite-sized koulourakia were well-known.
Pauline worked with her husband at the Centerville/House of Pizza in Brockton, Shore House Restaurant in Falmouth Heights. After restaurant life, she became the secretary/bookkeeper at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and then secretary at the Ellis Brett Elementary School. She retired in order to care for her three granddaughters.
As an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, she was a Sunday School teacher for many years, a member and President of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, 1964 to 1966. As president, she started with other members what has become the annual multiday Greek Festival at the church. This event is still held every September.
Pauline is survived by her sister, Barbara Kanellopoulos of Falmouth, MA, her two daughters Ioanna (Ona) Calogrias and her husband, Tony, Roxanne Pappas Salvatore and her husband Daniel of West Yarmouth, MA, and her three granddaughters Alessandra Kariotis and Diana and Stephanie Calogrias
Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt.123) Brockton on Friday at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours Thursday in the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton, MA 02301
