Obituary

Peter G. Cosindas Peter G. Cosindas , 94, of Holbrook died Friday, April 6, 2007 at the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canton following a fall at home on April 3rd. He was the husband of Bessie (Canelias) Cosindas for 68 years. Born March 23, 1913 in Boston, he was the son of the late Alexander Kosintas and Starvroula "Julia" (Kostardikakis) Kosintas. Raised and educated in Boston, he moved to Brockton as a young man where he met and married Bessie Canelias. During World War II, he served briefly in Hawaii as an Air National Guard Observer. He was a member of the American Legion and Elks Club. His early business ventures were primarily as an entrepreneur in the grocery, restaurant, jewelry, and musical instrument trades. He played violin, one of his most passionate interests. He rode motorcycles, played baseball and golf. He competed in amateur wrestling in the 1930's and was a Massachusetts and Rhode Island 135lb Champion in 1934. In the 50's he bought a standard bred horse. That began an enchantment that lasted until 1977. During that time he was a breeder, owner, trainer and driver of standard bred trotters. He raced and won many times at tracks all over New England, New York and Delaware. He also went back to school in the 50's, taking night classes as Boston University and M.I.T. He worked as a Technical Writer for various companies in Massachusetts, Georgia, and California, writing instruction manuals for missile and aircraft systems. Somehow, he also found time to buy, sell and repair violins in addition to going to flea markets and yard sales. At 65, he volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels. Soon after, he was hired as the Holbrook Site Manager by South Shore Elder Services. For 25 years his dedication and commitment, coupled with his friendship, positive attitude and never ending good humor impacted the lives and well being of many elders in the town of Holbrook. He retired in 2003 at the age of 90. For the next four years he remained active, still driving and living at home with his wife, Bessie. He enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, watching sports, telling jokes and reminiscing. He was always wise in speech and prudent in act. He is survived by his wife, Bessie (Canelias) Cosindas of Holbrook; his children, Stephen Cosindas of Avon, Dennis Cosindas of Holbrook, Arlene Cosindas Feodoroff of Avon, and Ann Schoenfeld of Woodside, California; his brothers, Frank Cosindas of Tustin, California, and Louis Cosindas of Homeland, California; his sisters, Esther Teich of Sun City West, Arizona, Olga Conides of Surprise, Arizona, and Marie Cosindas of Boston; he is also survived by six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late John Cosindas, his twin, Nicholas Cosindas, James Cosindas, and Sophia Costa. Funeral Information Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St. (Rte 123), Brockton on Friday, April 20th at 12:00PM.
