Peter N. Giannaros, 79, of Brockton, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Tulla (Koutsoumbou) Giannaros.
Born April 6, 1936 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Nicholas Giannaros and Fotine Deftos. Raised in Brockton, he graduated from Brockton High School.
Peter served in the U.S. Army from 1955 through 1957. He later attended Bridgewater State College and earned a B.S. and Masters Degree in Education.
He was an elementary school teacher and principal of the North Elementary School in Abington for 37 years. He was dedicated and devoted to his faculty and students.
Peter travelled extensively in Europe prior to his marriage to Tulla in 1968.
Peter was the former proprietor of the Brockton Cafe and was a lifelong supporter of the City of Brockton.
Peter was devoted to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton. He served as choir director and President of the Parish Council. Peter was instrumental in the construction of the Oak Street church as a member of the building committee. Peter and Tulla were recognized by the Metropolis of Boston for their outstanding service to their church and were awarded the Ministry Award.
Most of all Peter was devoted to his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were the greatest joys of his life. He was a very proud Papou who was involved in all aspects of their lives, most of all teaching them how to swim, enjoy sports, do well in school and above all enjoy life. Peter enjoyed life and most especially the love he and Tulla shared together.
Peter and his family are extremely appreciative of the 30 years of medical care he received from Massachusetts General Hospital, and wish to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ronald Takvorian and Dr. Annmarie Fogarty.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his loving children, Nicole Bethoney and her husband Ernie, Paulette Martin and her husband Dennis and Alex Giannaros and his wife Jenna; his adored grandchildren, Nicolas, Kayla, Nina, Alexandra and Andrew; his sisters and brother-in-laws, Sophie Koutsoumbou, Chris Coutsoumbos and his wife Vilma and Stella Tzortzatos and her husband Stellios; he was the loving cousin of Jimmy and Barbara Giannaros; he is also survived by several nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was the brother of the late E. Charles Giannaros.

Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Tuesday, June 23rd at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home Monday 4:00-8:00PM.
