Online Obituaries Philip C. Shute, 80, of Brockton, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Beth Israel Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Corinne L. (Duffy) Shute for over 50 years. He grew up in Hyde Park, son of the late Stanley J. Shute and Dorothy (Smith) Shute. At the age of 17, Phil entered the United States Air Force where he served for 4 years in the Intelligence Unit in Germany. Upon his return, he graduated from Bridgewater State Teacher's College and then taught in the Randolph Public School system for 12 years. His love of history and interest in antiques eventually led him to leave teaching and start his own business, Shute Auction Gallery, originally opened in Norwell and later in Brockton until retiring in 2001. He was active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, serving a President for several years and enjoyed "calling" auctions to raise money for his favorite charity. He was the beloved father of Richard Shute and his partner, Lorna Avilla of Brockton, Carolyn Shute and husband James Corcoran of Dedham and Susan (Shute) Crowe of Brockton. He was the loving "papa" to Austin, Spencer and Jared Shute and Rachel and Shane Crowe; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stanley and Donald Shute and Nancy Wellman. Funeral Information Following Cremation, all are welcome to calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Sunday from 1:00-4:00PM followed by a Memorial Service at 4:00PM. Interment will be private.
